Summer is here and so are vacations! Austin-Bergstrom International Airport predicts a record-breaking travel season, beginning mid-May and lasting until the end of summer.

Airlines are increasing their route frequencies, using larger aircraft and adding new destinations in preparation for the summer. This has resulted in 4%, 6% and a 7% increase in seats for sale in the months of May, June and July respectively. The airport predicts to see about 30,000-plus passengers on the daily, with some days trending above 40,000.

Austin airport continues to make renovations and changes to improve the overall efficiency of the airport. This includes installing new screening equipment and expanding existing Security Checkpoints, a new outbound baggage handling system for departing luggage and the expansion of the Westside Terminal that will break ground later this year.Arrive at least 2.5 hours before departure if flying domestically, and three hours before an international flight. TSA checkpoints open at 3:30 a.m.

Use upper and lower level for both departures and arrivals depending on whichever one is least congested.
