The Aurora City Council will vote Tuesday night on contracts with two architects for the design of changes at RiverEdge Park and Millennium Plaza downtown.
One contract would be with Chicago-based Ratio Architects for $946,850 for changes to RiverEdge Park, home to numerous events and concerts throughout the year along North Broadway and the Fox River. The other contract would be $70,000 to Hitchcock Design Group, which has an office in Naperville, to design changes to Millennium Plaza on Stolp Avenue, also along the river.
“Completing the improvements will allow for attraction of more performers while also increasing the number of patrons that the park can accommodate without compromising the services they are provided,” said Bauer in a memo to Mayor Richard Irvin and the City Council. “These improvements generally consist of a new dressing room facility, improved and expanded seating/viewing areas, additional restrooms, entry gate enhancements, improved storage and improved access to purchase refreshments.
“We miss out on a lot of acts that look at the set-up and say, ‘this doesn’t work for us,’” Bauer said. The city advertised the Request for Qualifications for the work and got eight submittals, which were ranked by a selection team from both the Civic Center Authority and the city. At Millenium Plaza along Stolp Avenue, Bauer said Hitchcock Design Group would “re-envision” the site.
