Atascocita's fast start paves way for win over No. 1 Pearland

Opportunistic Atascocita built a seven-run lead after two innings before hanging on for a 7-6 victory in an area round matchup, setting up Saturday’s 1 p.m. series finale at Jim Kethan Field in Deer Park. Pearland gradually chipped away at the seven-run lead and had numerous chances to push across the game-tying or game-winning run.Pearland also left two runners on in the third inning, one in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the sixth and two in the seventh.Pearland starting pitcher Ryler Smart struggled from the outset as Atascocita’s Kendall George began the game with an infield single.
After Smart hit a batter and issued another walk among the first three batters of the second inning, his night was finished.
