The experts at Maison Francis Kurkdjian have unveiled the new Perfume Parterre at the Grand Trianon in Versailles, France. Here's what to know and how to visit.
Maison Francis Kurkdjian knows a thing or two about cultivating luxury scents from scratch. Last year, the fragrance house partnered with the Château de Versailles—the former palace of King Louis XIV, and one of France’s most popular tourist attractions—to create the Perfumer’s Garden, a sprawling outdoor space featuring nearly 300 varieties of plants and flowers, in the Châteauneuf Orangery of the estate’s Grand Trianon residence.
Years later, he even created a replica of Queen Marie Antoinette’s signature fragrance, Sillage de la Reine, using archival documents for guidance and inspiration.“This garden symbolizes two decades of partnership between Versailles and I,” Kurkdjian tells Bazaar. “It is also a way to continue cultivating awareness of the history of fragrance at the court of Versailles, which became the epicenter of perfume-making craft and artistry in France from the 17th century to the 18th century.
