DRIPPING SPRINGS — To get to Camp Lucy, turn off U.S. 290 and drive several miles down thin, bumpy, sharply turning country roads that seem unlikely to lead to a luxury resort and fine restaurant.Dripping Springs, 20 miles west of Austin, is booming, but the sprawl feels distant at this 287-acre hilltop getaway, which functions as a wedding venue and corporate retreat. It is home to Tillie’s, an American nouveau restaurant and cocktail bar led by Chef Andy Knudson.
“It’s like the Garden of Eden. Being up on this hilltop, near the water, it just relaxes you,” he said. “It’s trying to create the sense of escape, of relaxation, of safety, with some adventure.” The resort now features seven former churches or town halls imported from Vietnam, as well as two Amish barns from Ohio. Whit, a former antique dealer, and Kim have filled the property with objects from around the world, such as a bollard from Paris, a weaving from Ecuador, and a door from Romania.
Whit and Kim, who together run their hospitality company Whim Hospitality, are expanding the resort with a multimillion-dollar spa and the addition of 13 guest rooms on top of the existing 41.
