Injured Astros starter José Urquidy will not accompany the team on its two-city road trip to Toronto and Cleveland this week but said he is “feeling good” physically as he continues to ramp up his throwing regimen.
Urquidy went on the injured list May 1 with right shoulder discomfort and resumed throwing on flat ground this week. On Saturday, the righthander said he is still throwing only fastballs at 90 feet and hopes to add breaking balls to the mix within the next week before the Astros schedule his first bullpen session.
Also likely to stay behind in Houston this week is Lance McCullers Jr., who two weeks ago was on the verge of pitching to hitters in a live batting practice but insteadin his strained right forearm, according to Astros general manager Dana Brown. Baker said on Saturday that he had no update on McCullers.
Astros outfielder Michael Brantley will make the trip as he continues to rehab from shoulder surgery. Brantley hit off a tee and played catch earlier this week but Baker said he had no timetable for Brantley’s next steps.
