Astros' Alex Bregman explains unusual double play he started with a bounce pass to second base

at second base against the Mets on Tuesday night. As it turns out, he got the idea from fellow American League West third baseman Anthony Rendon.

In the second inning, Bregman roamed far to his left to field a hopper from Darin Ruf with a runner on first. Instead of making a traditional toss to Dubón covering second, the third baseman spiked a throw into the ground, which provided a perfect bounce into Dubon's glove, who fired to first to turn an easy double play on the slow-footed Ruf.

After the highlight made the rounds on social media, Bregman got on Twitter to explain his thought process, explaining that he can be more accurate with that kind of short throw while moving at full speed. "Haha been practicing this after I saw Rendon do it in Anaheim," Bregman tweeted."Easier to be accurate doing this then trying to guide a softer throw to second base while running full speed to the left."
