How to handle family gatherings after a divisive election: Ask Yadi has the answer

CLEVELAND, Oh - My wife has been extremely upset since the election. I am sure that she is not the only one who is disappointed in the results. While I can sympathize with her, sadly there is not much we can do but accept the results and hope for the best.

My wife has already expressed her desire to not attend dinner this year. Not that we are unaware of others political sides, but because she doesn’t want to deal with the inevitable conversation, especially at the table. I am confident that the recent election will be the main topic of conversation. I am torn between supporting my wife’s choice to stay home, and spending time with my family. They will be very upset with me if we don’t show up. And I don’t want to go without her.Unfortunately, the recent election has continued to divide many us. But, your wife is clearly aware of the political stances of family members. Validate her feelings, but also remind her of the importance of spending time with family. No matter who they supported politically.
