In his debut humor column, reporter Lucas Daprile gives poor advice to readers, like this one who asks how she should handle her husband knocking on her adult son who holds a steady job and owns a home, but also drinks a lot of beer and plays video games.
hard time about his lifestyle choices, such as drinking beer, playing video games and not having long-term relationships, even though he holds down a stable job, owns a home and is respected in his field. My husband is angry with me for not pushing our son to change his lifestyle, and it’s affecting our relationship. What should I do?: As a 30-year-old who also likes drinking beer and playing video games, I have to say your son seems pretty cool.
I’m not sure what more your husband wants than a son who works hard, calls his mother often and seems to be reasonably responsible. In the real world, parents don’t — and shouldn’t — control how a grown adult lives their life. However, in Fallout 4 you can create a fake, adult character and make them do whatever you want. Do you want to build a quaint post-apocalyptic town outside Boston and decorate your farmhouse with garden gnomes? Go for it. Want to get absolutely wrecked on futuristic Wasteland drugs and take on a Legendary Deathclaw? Sure, why not?
In Fallout 4, your engineer husband can exercise his need to control the minutiae of someone else’s life. He can build a railgun out of junk he found in the wasteland. He can walk around in a nuclear-powered suit of armor and beat up random people with a pool cue. Given the game’s rich dialogue options, your husband can even be mean to his Fallout 4 son, a character named Shaun, who does things actually worth complaining about.
Look at this handsome fella. His name is Lucas and he will be writing more columns like this, despite common sense saying this should stop while he’s ahead.
