In a pull-out-the-stops Saturday news conference, the Spurs rolled out the red carpet in introducing Victor Wembanyama to his new fan base

That is why on Friday afternoon — about the time Cissoko was at last rolling into town undetected on Interstate-35 like some mere earthbound mortal – thousands of fans gathered at the San Antonio Airport to greet Wembanyama’s private flight as he touched down in his new home for the first time.“I wasn’t expecting so much from just my arrival,” Wembanyama said Saturday.
With apologies to the good-natured Cissoko — a tantalizingly athletic 19-year-old guard project the Spurs drafted 44The unveiling of Wembanyama served as a flashback of sorts for Holt, who was 10 years old in 1997, when his father — Peter M. Holt — was the Spurs’ representative at the draft lottery drawing that brought Tim Duncan to San Antonio.“I feel like a kid again at 37,” Holt said Saturday.Jeremy Sochan had been in New York for the draft and flew back with Wembanyama on Friday.
