As far back as October, then Israeli cabinet minister, Nachman Shai said Iran’s military assistance to Russia removed “any doubt where Israel should stand in this bloody conflict. The time has come for Ukraine to receive military aid, as well, just as the USA and NATO countries provide.” With Russia preoccupied by Ukraine, however, its presence in Syria has decreased. But Israel still refuses to offer serious support to Ukraine. Initially, it did condemn the invasion and send humanitarian aid, but even this level of support for Kyiv is now in doubt.
In the US, even the senior Republican Senator Lindsay Graham, a vocal supporter of Israel, registered his concern. “The idea that Israel should speak less about Russia’s criminal invasion of Ukraine is a bit unnerving,” he said.
