Monday’s late game followed up a rare lackluster finish at home from the Coyotes in Saturday’s 5-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

Maccelli’s goal at 7:23 tied the game in the second period and put him two points behind for second-most points among NHL rookies with 22 .The scoreless start for both teams was erased 49 seconds into the second period when Canadiens left winger Cole Caufield ripped his shot past Vejmelka for the 1-0 lead.
Former Coyotes center Christian Dvorak tipped in defenseman Arber Xhekaj’s shot from the point at 4:27 for the Canadiens second goal on four shots.
