Aquaman proves he doesn't need a hook to be metal.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary Aquaman has long struggled to shake the "weak" reputation he's had ever since the '70s Super Friends cartoon. It turns out, however, that creative use of his powers and a simple one-liner can accomplish what decades of retcons and redesigns struggled to do: turn the man who talks to fish into a genuine badass.

Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, Nathan Fairbairn, and Ariana Maher's Knight Terrors: Superman #2 plays out over two fronts: while Superman and Supergirl shatter the boundaries of their nightmares in order to help each other, Aquaman, Mera, and the forces of Atlantis - who are unaffected by Insomnia's worldwide wave of sleep - go about the surface securing those in danger. During the action, Aquaman and Mera are attacked by one of Insomnia's Sleepless Knights.

"You think this is the first time I've had to swim in blood?" Aquaman asks rhetorically, revealing a truly terrifying facet of his powers.Aquaman Reveals He's Always Been a Total Badass Aquaman and his family have long suffered from their problematic reputation: since most of their abilities are tailored for life under the sea, they're often considered useless when on the surface.

While Aquaman may only have this single fight scene in Knight Terrors: Superman #2, it manages to sell him as a total badass without having to change a single element of his design or distinctive orange costume. While it would make sense that Aquaman would have swum through bloodied waters before , the way he speaks makes it sound as though he has experience swimming through oceans of gore, completely unaffected.

Aquaman's ability to breathe and swim underwater may also extend to blood, but that alone doesn't make him a badass: it's his cheerful demeanor and casual strength in the face of this foe that accomplishes what so many grim and gritty redesigns failed to do.
