An Ohio 8th District Court of Appeals panel held that there was enough evidence to convict Tamara McLoyd of participating with two others in a four-robbery spree in the weeks before the Dec. 31, 2021, slaying of Shane Bartek during a carjacking outside his apartment building.

Tamara McLoyd was convicted of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and other charges in the killing of Shane Bartek, an off-duty Cleveland police officer, and several other armed robberies.CLEVELAND, Ohio -- An appeals court has upheld the robbery convictions of a woman who was also found guilty of murder in the killing of off-duty Cleveland police officer Shane Bartek.of participating with two others in four robberies in the weeks before the Dec.

The panel’s ruling is separate from McLoyd’s conviction on aggravated murder and other charges in Bartek’s killing. The same appellate panel heard oral arguments in that case last month, and it has yet to release its decision. Eighth District Judge Mary Boyle wrote for the unanimous panel that Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge John O’Donnell’s decision rejecting McLoyd’s request for a trial separate from Jermaine Hagwood, 32, and Jada Hite, 20, who were also charged in the robbery spree, did not violate her rights.

Cellphone tower data putting her phone near the scene of the robberies was properly admitted as evidence during the trial, and O’Donnell did not taint the trial when he said during jury selection that a grand jury had found there was probable cause that McLoyd committed the crimes, the court ruled. The same judges upheld Hagwood’s convictions in a separate opinion. Hite has not filed an appeal.McLoyd, 20, was sentenced to life in prison with no chance at parole.
