'Appalling' driver pointed firearm at engineer in Nottingham road rage incident
Crime

An angry exchange had taken place before an imitation firearm was brandished

A 23-year-old driver has been jailed after pointing what appeared to be a semi-automatic pistol at a van driver in a road rage incident. Both drivers were approaching Queen's Road when Kiejuan Brandy, 23, swerved into the right-hand lane to overtake a cyclist, causing a van driver to apply his brakes to avoid a collision.

The van driver sounded his horn at Brandy, who reacted by pulling up to the side of his 25-year-old victim's work van and engaging in an angry exchange. Brandy proceeded to pull out what resembled a semi-automatic pistol and shouted words to the effect of: 'Do you want to carry on talking?

' The engineer then apologised, but the 23-year-old proceeded to pull on the top of the firearm, which made a distinctive clicking sound, leading the victim to fear he was about to be shot. Brandy then drove forward and left the scene. The victim then called the police , and Brandy was arrested at his home address on Oakmead Avenue, Bilborough.

Appearing in front of Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, April 28, Brandy pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and was jailed for 18 months. Speaking after sentencing, Detective Constable Farhan Dewan-Williams said: “This was an appalling incident that understandably left the victim feeling extremely scared.

“These kind of road rage incidents are thankfully rare and will always be met with a robust police response. “I am pleased the judge imposed an immediate custodial sentence and I hope this offers the victim some comfort following such a traumatic incident. “This case acts as a reminder to road users to act responsibly and remain calm during stressful moments while on the move. ”
