With the help of a $2 million grant, the Anchorage Police Department has finalized the purchase of 48 new 2024 Dodge Durango patrol vehicles.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - With the help of a $2 million grant secured by Sen. Lisa Murkowski, along with additional funds from the Anchorage Municipality, the Anchorage Police Department has finalized the purchase of 48 new 2024 Dodge Durango patrol vehicles.
“When we started this process of ordering cars, about 50% of our fleet was over 100,000 miles, and about 50% of our fleet was over 10 years old,” Case said on Saturday. “We have officers driving around in 2009 Chevy Impalas, and those are unsafe vehicles, it’s been around in service for far too long. We’re behind in getting our vehicle, $5,000 a year is about what we need to replenish the fleet.”
“We need more vehicles,” Nolder said. “When we deal with the weather changes in the state of Alaska, ideally you would turn your fleet over in that five to seven years, no more than 100,000 miles. So this was an extraordinary effort, but we need to continue this pace, really at least 60 cars a year going forth, just to get to a healthy fleet.”
While the Indiana police department has not specified whether the Durangos they purchased are V6 or V8 engines, they have stated that the problem is affecting vehicles costing roughly $50,000, which according to estimates online would be the V8 engine.
