Rep AOC joined other Democrats in taking a victory lap over the SCOTUS’s decision to maintain access to a widely used abortion pill, suggesting that calls to defy lower court orders may have helped influence the decision.
“The court has devolved into a highly politicized entity that is rapidly delegitimizing,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a tweet. “Open discussion of checking the court’s abuse of power & defying [U.S. District Court Judge Matthew] Kacsmaryk possibly contributed to pause/consideration.
In his dissent, Justice Samuel Alito asserted that the Biden administration would likely not comply with court orders to ban the abortion pill — possibly referring to Democratic calls to defy the Texas decision.
