Antonian freshman Blake Medici and TMI seniors Leo and Jay Perry win TAPPS state titles.
For about 12 hours a week, Antonian ’s Blake Medici trains to become a better tennis player. The freshman’s hardwood paid off as he beat The Village School 's Innes Macaulay 6-0 , 6-3 to win the TAPPS 6A boys singles state championship on Tuesday in Waco . “We always talk about embracing the grind because that's the kind of player he is,” Antonian tennis coach Royce Cook said. “If it requires him to hit 50 balls during a point, he's going to hit 50 balls.
” This is Medici's fourth first-place finish win this season, including wins at a San Marcos and Brennan tournament. Also, he won a district championship, which helped the Apaches win a team title. “Blake won the district by beating two very tough opponents from The Village School in Houston,” Cook said. “And, we actually won district as a boys team because he won both the matches against their top two players.
