A person died Sunday night after a fatal vehicle collision on Highway 4, authorities said.

At 9:36 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers responded to reports of the collision in westbound Hwy. 4 lanes just east of Auto Center Road.

When officers arrived, they found an overturned vehicle in the roadway’s No. 1 or left-most lane, and met Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters providing medical care to a person nearby, CHP Officer Damian Cistaro said. Despite first responders’ efforts, the person was pronounced dead at the scene. The person’s identity was immediately available Sunday night, pending next-of-kin notification from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division.

Officers closed several westbound Hwy. 4 lanes near the accident, but did not issue a Sig-alert due to limited traffic impact.
