Actor Anthony Mackie, who takes on the mantle of Captain America in the upcoming film 'Captain America: Brave New World,' has stated that the character should not be seen as a representation of America itself. He emphasized that Captain America embodies core values like honor, dignity, and integrity, rather than national identity.

Anthony Mackie , the lead actor in Marvel 's upcoming film ' Captain America : Brave New World ,' has stated that the iconic character should not be seen as a representation of America. During a press tour for the fourth installment of the Captain America franchise at Hotel De La Ville in Rome, Italy, on January 27, Mackie emphasized the core values Captain America embodies.

'Captain America represents a lot of different things and I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations,' he said. 'It’s about a man who keeps his word, who has honor, dignity and integrity. Someone who is trustworthy and dependable,' he added. A spokesperson for Hotel De La Ville confirmed to Fox News Digital that 'Disney used Hotel de la Ville' facilities for both photocall and TV interviews.' Marvel's Italian account shared Mackie's comments in a promotional video for the film, but notably omitted the part where he stated 'I don’t think the term ‘America’ should be one of those representations.' Disney, the parent company of Marvel Studios, has not yet responded to a request for comment. Mackie, who previously starred in 'Marvel Avengers: Infinity War,' 'Captain America: Winter Soldier,' and 'Captain America: Civil War,' portrays Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, a close ally of Steve Rogers, the original Captain America. After Rogers relinquished the Captain America mantle, Wilson now takes on the role, wearing the iconic costume and wielding the shield. Mackie also expressed the importance of Captain America being a relatable figure for individuals of all racial backgrounds. 'I think it’s just as important for Black kids to see a Black Captain America as it is for White kids. Growing up, my favorite hero was green. It wasn’t about race or anything. It was about him being a good guy trying to do the right thing,' he said. 'it’s very important for kids of all races to be able to watch and have someone to look up to no matter what they look like, and see that that package comes with a good human being as opposed to what they’ve been perceived as by everyone else.' 'Captain America: Brave New World' boasts a star-studded cast, including Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Harrison Ford, known for his iconic role in 'Indiana Jones.' The film is scheduled to premiere in theaters on February 14, 2025
