The annual event was founded by the late Aurora Ald. Scheketa Hart-Burns, who died suddenly this summer after surgical complications.
Community members are collaborating with the Mayor’s Office to hold the event in honor of Hart-Burns’ legacy as the city’s first Black resident elected to the City Council, where she served for 32 years.
A popular back-to-school tradition, the MLK Back to School Bash will include free school supplies, food, haircuts and hair braiding, children’s entertainment, raffles for adults, prizes for children, including iPads and computers, and more, according to the release.
