“I know fatherhood is a lot of work,” Mr. Eric Beal, Almira's planning center instructional aide, says to the crowd. “But it’s tremendously rewarding once you see your scholars and your sons and daughters succeed.'

Photo by Cameron FieldsCLEVELAND, Ohio -- With a slight chill in the air on this first day of fall, dads and their children stand outside the front entrance of Almira Elementary School on Cleveland’s West Side.

Mr. Eric Beal, the school’s planning center instructional aide, and bilingual instructional aide Ms. Michelle Rodriguez guide students to their daily breakfast and direct families to the gym, where the gathering will take place. Seventy dads – and a few moms – show up for the event, and they are treated to breakfast sandwiches and juice.

“Just being there for them as a father,” Brian says of the importance of coming to the Fathers Walk. “Being a role model for them.”
