AMD has confirmed that the Windows 11 preview optimisation that provided massive gains for its Ryzen CPUs, but was limited to the future release 24H2 version of Windows 11, will in fact be made available to the current public version 23H2 right now. Microsoft has backported the specific optimisation to be part of a current update that can be easily downloaded via Windows Update.
The update can be downloaded now. All you have to do is find update KB5041587 in Windows Update and download it. To get to Windows Update, click on the Start Menu and type update and then click on Check for Updates.AMD's instructions were to head to the advanced section and locate it under optional updates, but for me, the update was ready to be installed on the main page as you can see below.
Of course, it would also have given owners of older CPUs a big speed boost making them perhaps less unlikely to upgrade to its new Zen 5 Ryzen 9000 CPUs, or maybe Microsoft was simply not able to bring the release forward at the time. Even so, if you own an AMD Ryzen CPU then chances are you'll see a hand speed boost in games and other software thanks to the update. Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
