AMC is going to start charging customers different prices based on where they sit in the theater. The best seats in the middle of the auditorium will now cost more than the ones in the front.

But within each auditorium, a ticket is a flat, fixed rate regardless of where you sit., the biggest theater chain in the U.S., is going to change that. Today they announced what they call “Sightline at AMC,” a program that creates three tiers of pricing based on where you sit in the theater.
In other words: If you sit in the front row, you’ll get to pay less for a ticket. But if you like to sit in the middle of the theater — i.e. the most popular spot with the best view — you’re going to have to payI suppose this is good news for anyone who actually enjoys sitting in the very front row of a theater.
I think we all recognize that movie theaters have had a rough go of it in the past few years, and we all want them to succeed and flourish. But I am not sure making the customer pay more just to sit where they want is the best way to make that happen.
