Amazon Prime Video has an eight-episode sci-fi anthology that feels like a more optimistic version of Black Mirror. Black Mirror is probably the best sci-fi anthology since the original Twilight Zone. Charlie Brooker's speculative, dystopian vision of the world is frightening but uncomfortably comprehensible. Other shows have taken a crack at the anthology format, but it's an easy one to mess up. If just one episode falls flat, it can bring the rest of the season down, and if you are adamant about ensuring every episode follows the same tone, your series could become uninteresting and rote. Prime Video managed to make an anthology series that nearly stands as tall as The Twilight Zones and Black Mirrors, with a lot of help from Swedish artist Simon Stålenhag. Stålenhag, whose art inspired Netflix's The Electric State, also illustrated works that were eventually combined into a book called Tales from the Loop. Tales from the Loop was adapted into an eight-episode sci-fi drama, developed by Nathaniel Halpern, which follows the interconnected lives of the residents of Marcer, Ohio, a fictional town home to an experimental lab called the'Loop'. There's sci-fi and drama, but this future offers a more optimistic world than the kind you see in Black Mirror.
Tales From The Loop Envisions A Kinder Future In Tales from the Loop, related people in Mercer begin experiencing strange and mysterious events, which they all discover are caused by whatever experiments are being performed in the'Loop'. There are time paradoxes, body swaps, and incredible visions, all bringing Stålenhag's beautiful art to life. There is plenty that goes wrong in Tales from the Loop, and characters aren't always left better off after their encounters, but they often aren't the worse for them either. It's almost as if their lives were always headed in this impossible direction, and we just happen to be viewing them at a tipping point. The inevitability of the chaos in Tales from the Loop and the acceptance of the characters make for a more optimistic vision of the future than the kind we usually see in Black Mirror, where characters are horrified at their fates. Tales from the Loop is nostalgic and symmetrical, a symbol of the comfort of repeating aspects of life.
Black Mirror Still Has The Occasional Optimistic Episode As grim as Black Mirror can be, there are some moments of brightness, like the kind we often see in Tales from the Loop. In season 3, episode 1,'Nosedive', every social interaction is rated on a social-media-like five-star scale, which affects everything from the friends you have to the apartments you can rent.

At the end of the episode, Lacie discovers freedom by giving up her reliance on the rating system. In'San Junipero', two dying women find love in a simulated reality. In'Hang the DJ', a couple are matched on a dating app, despite thinking they lost one another. However, even some of the'bright' episodes of Black Mirror require you to wade through a quagmire of sadness or unfortunate circumstances. Tales from the Loop is, at its core, optimistic. It sees the future as strange and different, but also makes the point that every new day is strange and different.
