In an interview with Medscape, Alvaro Pascual-Leone, MD, PhD, a professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School, commented,"In addition to being a comorbidity factor, diabetes appears to be a predisposing risk factor for AD." This is supported by a comprehensivepathophysiologic mechanisms in AD and diabetes, treating one condition may have beneficial effects on the other.
These findings underscore the importance of targeted screening and assessment for patients with anxiety and depression who may be at risk for AD or those diagnosed with AD who are at risk for subsequent depression and anxiety.
