All of Scotland now facing water scarcity, says environment body
On Skye, which now has a moderate scarcity, Scottish Water has been given permission to increase the amount of water it takes from a burn flowing from a loch in a conservation area.Transport and Net Zero Secretary Mairi McAllan authorised the "exceptional, short-term measure" to ensure maintenance of the public water supply to the village of Broadford.
"We were about two or three days away from the burn, which we take our water from, running dry. It's never happened before and it has certainly never dropped at such a quick rate. "I am grateful that the weather is going to be turning this weekend and into Monday, for at least a short period. It's been a really challenging period for us over the last three weeks.Government minister Mairi McAllan said prompt action was being taken to ensure that there was no risk to the public water supply on Skye.
