Ten new Americans were sworn in Thursday at a special ceremony at the Anchorage Federal Building,
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - People from 10 different countries were sworn in as the newest U.S. citizens in Alaska during a naturalization ceremony held at the U.S. Federal Building in Anchorage on Thursday.Marjorie Rockwell, originally from the Philippines, took the oath on Thursday. She said she studied hard for both the examination and the in-person interview.
Rockwell, who is married and has lived in Alaska for the last four years, said she is excited to experience the freedoms that U.S. citizenship offers, including the right to vote and the possibility of bringing her parents to live in the states. According to data provided by the agency, there are currently nearly 15,000 green card holders in Alaska who are eligible to become U.S. citizens, but a backlog in processing applications has slowed the process.
