The Alaska Senate is preparing a competing proposal that includes a 75-25 dividend and no deficit.
Though lawmakers acknowledge the need for a new Permanent Fund dividend formula, policy differences have created widely different views of the situation. Hoffman and other members of the Senate Finance Committee argue that the new bill allows for the possibility for a larger figure, but only if legislators and the governor find a way to reliably pay for it.
