As Alabama is threatened with severe weather by Hurricane Helene in the coming days, schools are beginning to announce closures and altered schedules.

Helene is anticipated to make landfall in Florida Thursday evening as a Category 3 hurricane. Helene’s current track indicates that portions of Alabama is expected to get a lot of rain and strong winds from Helene, particularly east and southeast Alabama, which will be closest to the storm. Most of the worst weather from Helene will affect Alabama Thursday and Friday.

Schools have begun announcing plans to either close or hold virtual sessions ahead of Helene’s expected landfall and inclement weather.
