A breathalyzer test showed the driver's blood alcohol level was .33 -- more than 16 times the legal limit.

A transportation mechanic who doubled as a substitute bus driver, 46-year-old James Chaney was confronted by a Jackson police officer outside Jackson Middle School last Tuesday after a parent reported Chaney to police.

Jackson police chief Jerry Taylor told the outlet the officer administered several field sobriety tests, which Chaney failed, according to the report. A subsequent breathalyzer test showed Chaney’s blood alcohol level was .33 -- more than 16 times Alabama’s legal limit of .02. Chaney had completed that day’s bus route prior to being confronted by the officer. Chaney was taken into custody and charged with DUI and reckless endangerment. He was immediately terminated by the Clarke County School District, where he had worked for about 10 years, the report said.
