Montgomery, Alabama

The Kiwanis Club got things started with its annual Fair Day luncheon Tuesday afternoon in downtown Montgomery.

General Manager Randy Stephenson spoke to the Kiwanis Club, along with media and corporate sponsors, Tuesday. Stephenson addressed the fire earlier this year that destroyed one of the barns during the SLE Rodeo inOne of the big differences this year is the length of the Alabama National Fair. In the past, it has been 11 days long, but due to the Columbus Day holiday, the fair has been extended by one day.

The other change is that the parking will now be included in the price of the ticket. This will make it easier to park. The fair is more than just fun though. It allows the Kiwanis Club to help give back to the community. “That’s what we’re here for,” said Stephenson. “That’s what it’s all about. That’s why they started this 71 years ago as a fundraiser and now you look at $10 million back to this community over the 71 years, plus our livestock programs and our creative living center programs and cooking all these competitions we do with young people, it’s such a wonderful day and the fair is such a wonderful event.
