After a recent uptick in reports of thieves targeting SNAP recipients with fraudulent phone calls, the state Department of Human Resources is warning Alabamians to be cautious.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -
Alabama DHR says the callers are likely identifying themselves as employees of DHR or EBT Customer Service, and asking for valuable information such as EBT card numbers, PINs and other personal information to verify your EBT account in order to “unlock” it. DHR says they nor EBT Customer Service will ever call or text asking for EBT card or personal information for any reason.
“These thieves are attempting to take advantage of those most in need of assistance by any means at their disposal,” said state DHR Commissioner Nancy Buckner. “It is vital for those receiving benefits to protect their personal information. DHR is providing a list of tips which can help keep this vital data out of the hands of these bad actors.”If you are unsure if a request for information is authentic, DHR encourages you to contact your local office at a verified phone number.
