If Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood and the judges have their way, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office will take over electronic monitoring duties – if it can be funded.

A spokesman for Mayor Sandy Stimpson said the administration has agreed to split that cost with the Mobile County Commission. Spokesman Jason Johnson called it a “priority” for the administration but noted that the City Council would have to approve it. Electronic monitoring companies already had been under scrutiny before this month’s murder.
