The former strongly rebuked Wiener’s “anti-housing” label for the Board of Supervisors president

Our city is under attack by a new radicalism, and it’s not the free-loving kind of the past. It’s a well-funded and dangerous “my way or the highway” rhetoric that slams any attempt at smart neighborhood planning as “anti-housing.”

The ink on the latest state developer loophole was barely dry before a proposal was submitted to tear down a historic building at 1088 Sansome St. in a 65-foot historic zone and replace it with a 267-foot high rise. That, fellow San Franciscans, would create a new high rise in North Beach, close to Telegraph Hill, that would be 60 feet higher than Coit Tower!

On the other hand, Peskin — who represents the densest neighborhoods in the entire city — moved quickly in partnership with the Planning Department to tweak the loophole by restoring the original upzoning in key historic districts. During his time leading the Board of Supervisors, President Peskin has presided over the most significant upzonings in San Francisco’s history by encouraging commonsense and community-led planning.

As a result, we have witnessed the creation of entire new complete neighborhoods, from the South of Market, Central Waterfront, Potrero Hill, Market and Octavia and the Transbay Redevelopment Plan.
