After the Pittsburgh tragedy, this grieving woman thinks she can reduce anti-Semitism — with 1,500 seder guests. Hundreds of Jews across the country pledged to invite non-Jews to their seders in memory of Joyce Fienberg.

Marnie Fienberg founded"2 for Seder" to honor her mother-in-law, Joyce Fienberg, who was killed in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting.

More than 730 families signed up, in 41 states and Canada. On the program’s website, Fienberg updated a daily count. As of Wednesday morning, two days before the Seder, Pennsylvania was leading with 108 Seders, with New York close behind at 94. She has devoted herself full time to “2 for Seder,” and she has visions of making the program far bigger next year. She imagines a database for interested non-Jews to sign up to be hosted in a stranger’s home for Seder, not just Jews inviting their acquaintances.

This year, Ravski said, he is sure the 1,500 non-Jews participating in “2 for Seder” will hear frank discussions of anti-Semitism around the table. “We know it’s going to come up. It’s where we feel the most pain,” he said. “I don’t think that there’s a Jewish household, or there are very few Jewish households, where Pittsburgh is not still in the front of our minds.
