Lake Barrington resident Linda Dowd visits her 2 thoroughbred horses Warrior and Kavanaugh at Plum Grove Farm in Barrington. Dowd is recovering after the left side of her body was crushed by a falling limb from a large tree. The 65-year-old has a new outlook on life, described an out-of-body memory she has after the injury where she thought she was at death's door and her thankfulness for the EMS responders and care she received at Condell in Libertyville.
As Dowd’s body entered shock from the severity of her injuries, she felt as if her consciousness rose above the scene, seemingly to look at her crumpled form from above. She wasn’t filled with fear, and was instead was consumed by a strange and disconnected feeling. “They said, ‘No, no you’re not going to die,’” Dowd said. “‘And we’re going to go somewhere a helicopter can land and you’re going to be in the hospital in 10 minutes.’ They did everything they could to allay my fear.”
