The husband and wife jailed earlier this month in the slaying of a 29-year-old man in west Oak Cliff were released after an attorney revealed a series of discrepancies in the evidence that led to their arrest.
About 1 a.m. Nov. 5, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 4300 block of West Illinois Avenue, near South Cockrell Hill Road, where they found Hernandez with a gunshot wound to his head. He was taken to a hospital, where he died, police said. A license plate reader near the scene of the shooting identified the pickup that left the bar as being registered to Esparza, and phone records also placed the couple “in the area” when the shooting occurred, according to the affidavit.
