After two days of struggling to find child care, school is back on

Swimming instructor Paula Garzon helps Flint Goldman crossing the pool during a swim camp Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2022, at Wolfies Swim Camp in Houston. Wolfies Swim Camp had a pop-up day camp for children affected by the HISD school closure.Houston ISD and several neighboring school systems announced that classes will resume Wednesday, after two days of closures triggered by a city-wide boil water notice.

Cindy Wolf Meador, owner and founder of Wolfies Swim School, heard about the boil-water advisory late Sunday and considered throwing together a day camp for parents who needed childcare, but it was too last minute. Paying $70 or so may be out of reach for some families. A U.S. Chamber of Commerce study found about 60 percent of low-income families had a parent leave the workforce because of the high cost of child care.
