In her heyday, Angelita Alvarez Renteria could make 14 dozen handmade tortillas in an hour and was paid 14 cents at her job in a tortilleria.
Lenchita’s Restaurant celebrated its 45th anniversary in Pacoima on Friday, March 25. Angelita Alvarez Renteria, 92, founder, and three generations of family members have kept the place open all these years. They serve Mexican food and are known for their handmade tortillas. Rachael Arias makes tortillas at a pace of 7 to 8 dozen an hour.
