You may have seen our announcements that Action 8 News will issue a “Code Red” weather alert if dangerous storms threaten the area. What does this mean?
Action 8 Chief Meteorologist Shane Butler and meteorologist Ben Lang will issue the alert when they examine data that shows potentially deadly and destructive storms are moving into Central, West or South Alabama. When that happens, you will see a “Code Red” icon in the corner of your TV screen as well as other on-air information and bulletins.
We will not issue a Code Red for every bad weather day. But when Shane and Ben issue a Code Red, you know the weather situation is serious. Code Red isn’t just limited to severe storms. An alert may also be issued for dangerous winter weather, tropical weather, flooding or extreme temperatures.
