The number of terminations in Scotland increased by almost a fifth last year to a record high.
A record number of abortions in Scotland last year may have been driven by cost of living worries, a charity has said.
The British Pregnancy Advisory Service said financial pressures were forcing women to make difficult choices.they were "absolutely not surprised" by the figures. While the number of abortions rose among all income groups, the increase was less pronounced in more affluent areas. "And the decisions that they're making really are at their very core, 'Is the right thing now for me to continue this pregnancy and have this child, or ultimately, do I really need to consider about whether having an abortion now is the best thing for me and for my family?'"
