One of the teams on the Rockets’ schedule had an arena conflict, leading to travel from Houston to Minneapolis to Orlando to Toronto and finally to New Orleans, a trip with 4,815 air miles to play four games. “We all knew the season was going to be tough early on,” guard Eric Gordon, the Rockets’ most experienced player, said. “That’s when you got to focus on what you need to do as a team. Got to figure out ways to win. Yeah, we’re in games but sometimes we’re playing from behind because of all the mistakes. We just have to have more togetherness to pull through when you’re on the road so much.
Asked if there are potential benefits in starting with this sort of schedule, coach Silas let out a pained laugh and said, “I don’t know.”
