Apartment 7A is the official prequel to Rosemary’s Baby, but a different horror franchise spin-off — The First Omen — told a much more effective and atmospheric Antichrist pregnancy storyline earlier this year. Produced by John Krasinski of A Quiet Place fame, Apartment 7A tells the untold backstory of Terry Gionoffrio, a minor character from Rosemary’s Baby. In Rosemary’s Baby, Terry is a tenant of Minnie and Roman Castevet who dies mysteriously.
The First Omen Works Better As A Rosemary's Baby Reboot Than Apartment 7A The First Omen Is A Much More Effective Antichrist Pregnancy Storyline Close Although Apartment 7A is a perfectly serviceable return to the Rosemary’s Baby universe that answers one of the biggest lingering questions from the original film, Arkasha Stevenson’s Omen prequel The First Omen is a much more effective revival of Rosemary’s Baby.
The Omen begins with the Antichrist being adopted by an American diplomat and named Damien; The First Omen is all about the conspiracy that led to Damien’s birth. Like Rosemary’s Baby, The First Omen explores the theme of women’s bodily autonomy, and also like Rosemary’s Baby, it effectively uses horror tropes and imagery to convey the terror of having that autonomy taken away.
