served as the backdrop for Celia Rowlson-Hall and Mia Lidofsky’s first encounter. Celia, a filmmaker and choreographer, and Mia, a director and showrunner, each made quite the impression on the other when they were both working on season three of the hit show back in 2013. The episode was called “Beach House,” and it was set on the North Fork of Long Island, New York, at the home of Mia’s then-boss Jesse Peretz. Celia was choreographing the episode, and Mia was Jesse’s assistant at the time.
Luckily, she didn’t give into her impulse, because the next morning at their Airbnb in the Marais, Mia started professing her love to Celia, how she couldn’t imagine a life without her. “As Mia rolled over to grab the ring, I screamed, ‘Wait!’ ” Celia says. “And I ran out of the room.” The following summer, while down in Virginia visiting her parents, Celia went a bit crazy in preparation for the wedding and bought every single vintage plate, serving dish, brass candlestick, and goblet she could get her hands on. The end result? No place setting was alike, and the tables at the wedding were covered in gorgeous flowers by Kim Jackson Reeves with rainbow drip candles surrounding them. Colorful paper lanterns and vines hung from above.
Meanwhile, Mia had always imagined wearing a colorful men’s suit. “But, it was really important to Celia that we both wear white to show unity and really distinguish this as a new chapter of our life together,” Mia explains. “And if ever I was going to wear white, this would be the day! We were also cognizant of not wanting me to be considered the ‘groom’ in the wedding, as I have a more traditionally masculine style.
Mia’s parents were supposed to walk her down the aisle, but with all of the weather drama, the plans changed. At the last minute, the couple walked down the aisle hand in hand. “We had worked so hard to get to this point that it only felt right to enter this ceremony together and leave together,” Mia says. “It was all secretly perfect.”
