The U.S. Central Command said Friday that 97 ships have been redirected during the blockade against Iran.
“A U.S. Sailor aboard USS Comstock observes a commercial vessel while enforcing the U.S. blockade against Iran, May 21,” US Central Command said in a statement on the social media platform, X. “U.S. forces have redirected 97 commercial vessels and disabled 4 since the start of the blockade. ”“U.S. Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit boarded M/T Celestial Sea, an Iranian-flagged commercial oil tanker suspected of attempting to violate the U.S. blockade by transiting toward an Iranian port,” CENTCOM said in a statement following the incident.
“American forces released the vessel after searching and directing the ship’s crew to alter course. ” Earlier this year, the U.S. and Israel conducted joint strikes on Iran over concerns that the country had missiles. Iran retaliated by striking back, resulting in other countries getting hit. The Middle Eastern country also closed the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in oil prices increasing.
