The crash, which happened around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, injured five people and killed an elderly woman, according to Pennsylvania State Police in Gettysburg.
The crash happened on East Berlin Road near the on-ramp for Route 15 North in Tyrone Township around 11:30 a.m., according to state police.
A 2023 Nissan Rogue, carrying four people from Texas, was driving east on East Berlin Road when the driver slowed down to make a left turn, across oncoming traffic, to merge onto Route 15 North. While making the left turn, the Nissan Rogue failed to yield to an oncoming 2019 Subaru Outback, which had two Shrewsbury residents inside, causing the two cars to collide.
The lone passenger in the Outback, 96-year-old Fuji A. Smith, was taken to the Gettysburg Hospital after the crash, where she died of her injuries, state police said.
