It was too good to be true.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The BBC’s Sherlock started off strong with its first two seasons, but its quality decreased dramatically after season 2. The Great Detective has been adapted to all types of media for over a century, with many artists taking creative liberties in their adaptations, and one of the most recent and successful ones was the BBC's TV series Sherlock.
Surely, the same happens in the books and Moriarty dies while Sherlock fakes his death, but Moriarty’s death in Sherlock happened a bit too soon. Sherlock never recovered from Moriarty’s death and couldn’t let go of him, to the point where his return was teased at the end of season 3, but that never paid off. Moriarty briefly returned in a flashback in season 4, and the series tried too hard to find a good replacement.
7 Sherlock Had A Weird Victorian Drug Trip Special Episode To make the wait between seasons 3 and 4 more bearable, Sherlock released a special episode titled “The Abominable Bride”. This episode is set in an alternate timeline in Victorian London, but it’s all revealed to be a drug-induced dream of Sherlock while he was on a plane back to England.
4 Sherlock Tried To Add More Humor Sherlock Holmes isn’t a comedic character in the books nor in the BBC adaptation, but in the books, he had some fun moments that were very on-brand as he delivered some smart but cheeky lines with perfect comedic timing. The first two seasons of Sherlock had some moments like those, though it focused more on having an expressionless Sherlock, but subsequent seasons tried to add more humor and failed at it.
