A Bergen County man was was identified as the alleged driver and arrested, police said.
A 76-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after police identified him as the suspect in a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian with serious injuries, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.
Officers responded to the intersection of Essex Street and Lehigh Street in Hackensack at 8:47 p.m. on Saturday. The pedestrian, a 65-year-old woman, was on the scene suffering from serious injuries and a vehicle could not be located, officials said. Investigators then determined that a 2019 Ford Mustang left the area after striking the pedestrian as she was crossing Essex Street, authorities said.He was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in serious bodily injury and issued motor vehicle summonses related to leaving the scene, officials said. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance.
The victim is being treated at Hackensack University Medical Center. Prosecutors did not provide her current condition.
