Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Several D&D heroes and villains appearing in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves can easily be mistaken for original characters. Given that Paramount’s live-action adaptation of the tabletop game centers a group of entirely new heroes, it’s easy to assume that everyone featured in the film was created for the movie. But in actuality, quite a few of its characters precede Honor Among Thieves by many years.

7 Themberchaud Mentioned by name in Honor Among Thieves, Themberchaud is the fat, red dragon that pursued the party to no avail during the Underdark sequence. The fearsome creature is rooted in existing Dungeons & Dragons materials, with his history in the tabletop game’s world explaining his backstory. The gray-skinned dwarves of the Underdark, the duergar have an alliance with Themberchaud, whom they provide with food. In return, Themberchaud acts as a guardian to one of their temples.

5 Hank’s Dungeons & Dragons Party When Edgin and his allies were fighting for their lives in the Neverwinter Games, the movie showed other parties of adventurers trying to survive. One in particular was stuck in a cage. On the surface, this may have just looked like the film showcasing the various participants in the game, but the costumes for the background characters confirm their appearance in the film to be a massive D&D Easter egg.

3 Szass Tam While Sofina was the main antagonist of Honor Among Thieves, a much bigger villain stood revealed as the true evil that threatened Neverwinter. The entity she intended to resurrect was Szass Tam, an all-powerful lich Xenk the Paladin described as the force behind the Red Wizards of Thay. Curiously, everything that Xenk said about Szass Tam and the Red Wizards was pulled from the D&D history.
